Scavenger Hunt Pt. 1

Miranda and I had actually went to the super old courthouse looking for this historical marker. We were wrong. Then we decided to go to the Nuecess county courthouse, and what-do-ya know, we found it. This historical marker lets know that the Corpus Christi Independent School System invested in a teacher that taught Mexican-American children English. After sucess they decided to purchase property  will the schools attendees on the rise and the you have the Cheston L. Heath School. I feel that this was what we had learned as Americanization. We are teaching immigrants and natives English so they can be more successful in our country. I think that this was a good idea, because with English in our community, communication would of been different. I do agree that this is a bad thing though, because English is the adapted language, and  many people have very little speaking capabilities of thier very own Mexican / Hispanic culture.

This blog was created to explore the Economic and Environmental ties of Refinery Row in Corpus Christi, Texas. I want to explore the community's thoughts on the impacts of Refinery Row as well as discover hands on what the Refinery's personnel have to say. My goals of this project is as follows: find out when the first Refinery was established, by who, and why, interview the highest ranking worker I can get ahold of and interview them, as well as my dad who has been employed by them for years, as well as two community members, a lawyer that has delt with a refinery related case, and an organization who has been researching and cleaning up toxic spills by the refineries, then some goals I have yet to determine from my knowledge after the interviews.
