Week 3

I have configured my survey and deemed that only one question is truly important to my project idea. I am kind of dissapointed at this, but what can I say, I am not a survey expert. I have gone to the library three times and stayed for atleast 3 hours each day. This project is highly extensive and I feel that discovering more and more is infinite. Where will my project end? My website, I feel may be a bit simplistic in layout, but the information on it is much greater. I am proud of myself for putting so much time into it, but I feel that I can keep on doing it. I do not know where I should end. The EPA is drenched in Corpus Christi and not many people know about it.

Week 2

I have gotten more than half of my surveys completed and made time in my scheduale to visit the Central Library. Also, I have establlished the building blocks of my website on Weebly. I have learned that the EPA was tremendously involved with Corpus Christi since it is among one of the largest ports in our nation. I have worries on how to carefully select my articles. A WOW moment would definetley be the great supply of information on my topic, the UGH is trying to shorten and select treasured info as much as I deem necessary to fit the point of this project.

Week 1

My first impressions of my project is that I thought I would have a definite ending point by the first time I had gotten all my goals for this project derived. I prepared for my project by starting to create a survey I would issue to my collegues and different age groups. I had learned from a call to the Central library librairan that there was adequate information to my project. I was worried that there would be too much information and I would not have had time to finish it all. I knew I was in for a very large amount of work and research. Who knew what Corpus Christi's environment was like besides the people that expirenced it?!

Research

It was a busy afternoon Wednesday May 21st at Corpus Christi's central library's 2nd floor Local History Dept. All chairs and table were full of fellow class mates researching their topic. I was literally astonished as I easily found information on the environment and the refineries!  I found atleast 10 folders of data, articles, and magazines in the vertical files that provided adequate information of my topic. The connections to the EPA are saturated in information as well. I had a lot of fun in doing the searching and looking at articles from the 1970's!  The photos are amazing as well. I cannot wait to piece together everything!

Step one:survey

I have decided to kick off my local history project with a survey. I am still conducting them but I do have to say that I am shocked at looking at the current results! Many people have never heard of the EPA and sadly many people think that the environment they live in is unhealthy.  It makes me wonder what I can do to help educate people and make a difference.  Perhaps one day I can conduct a city wide survey and raise the issue to our city council. If many Corpus Christi citizens believe that the environment they live in is unhealthy, then something should be done. Our well-being Is suffering.

Importance to CC's history and Community:
The significance of Buc Days is an event that passes down history and merges it with the modern day to create new history. Buc days preserves traditions that are still present today and it is nice for grandparents and parents to see themselves in their children when they bring the family to the Parade. It's nostalgic and new for many people. Buc days is also a fun family friendly event that entertains people of all kinds. This event is imporant to the community because it brings people together in a social event for fun. Buc days also attracts many people for tourism. People can come and rally together and be as loud as they can to have some fun.
